Cost of travelling around Colombia

Is Colombia an expensive country to visit? What are the costs of travelling around Colombia?

Colombia is one of the least expensive countries to visit. A couple travelling on a tight budget, booking cheap accommodation and eating in cheap local restaurants could conceivably budget on spending $20-$25 per day each.

Compared to other countries, travelling around Colombia costs about as much as travelling around Peru or Ecuador, but is less expensive than Brazil or Venezuela.

In major cities such as Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena budget travellers will find many hostels offering dorm rooms. Accommodation in smaller towns is generally cheap in the first place, and restaurants throughout Colombia have set meals that are often surprisingly good value.

Having said it's perfectly feasible to go wild with your money and book upmarket luxury hotels in Colombia. See the section on tailor made and luxury tours for advice.
