Colombia has some of South America's finest
colonial cities offering fantastic opportunities for highly cultural
tours. Coastal Cartegena
is Colombia's colonial gem, and one of the most beautiful and romantic
cities in all South America. There are numerous beautiful old colonial
buildings, plazas, museums and a range of other cultural activities in
Cartegena.
The Spanish, seeking El Dorado hundreds of
years ago, have left a great influence on towns throughout Colombia,
and many such towns are still immaculately preserved. You can almost
feel yourself stepping back in time when visiting the small colonial
towns of Mompos, Villa de Leiva or Barichara - all of which have
been the settings of numerous films and Colombian soap operas. Further
south in Colombia, Popayan
and Santa Fe de
Antioquia are also very well preserved colonial towns ozzing
in character and charm.
Colombia's capital city Bogota also has a fine old
colonial quarter known as La Candelaria. Almost all towns and cities in
Colombia exhibit colonial cultural influences - there are so many such
small towns a list of them would be endless.
